Engineers Rock
Bonjour mes collègues professionnels.
My first name is Adedeji; Deji is the short form. I am a Mechanical Engineering graduate with varied international experience and aspiration to develop a broad range of skills whilst improving my technical competence. Committed to excellence, I am keen to meet IMechE chartership requirements, achieve personal goals and contribute to business objectives. I thrive on challenges and motivate colleagues to understand how they fit into the overall corporate picture thus maximising team effectiveness. I shall bore you no further with my résumé
My best experience to-date is a volunteering trip to Tanzania I undertook in 2010 as part of a diverse team of 8 individuals from different backgrounds. Our objective was the setting-up of IT facilities in secondary schools and I took responsibility for resolving potential conflicts and helping the team adapt fluidly to our dynamic environment. This is one of the few times that I took part in voluntary work and also learnt the basics of a new language – Swahili! I cherish many memories from this trip, one of which was seeing glowing plankton whilst swimming under a full moon in the Indian Ocean. I have since taken part in a variety of STEM events which I will discuss at a later date.
I am currently a Graduate Engineer undertaking short attachments and attending training courses geared towards development of technical skills and business awareness.
Last month, my employers organised a sports meeting for staff across Engineering, Commercial, Human Resources and other business functions across the United Kingdom. We participated in 4 main events – Tag Rugby, Indoor Rowing, 4x100m relay and 4x800m relay. To the surprise of our non-technical counterparts, we Engineers won most of the medals. Indeed, Engineers rock!
As you must have noticed from my opening line, I am learning French. This is necessary as I will be working on an engineering design project in France starting September 2011. My French is still basic but I have met my future team members and I am sure of getting all the support I need to ease the settle-in process. I observe that the team is composed of Engineers who are technically grounded and socially astute and one thing is sure – the next three years of my career are bound to be very exciting.
